about

Based on the infamous "Kanjikode Cut" beat by Pakarcha Vyadhi, which was on constant repeat on underground circles for almost a decade. Vyadhi initially made the beat for Azuran during 2012 - 2013 who requested to make a South Indian flavored beat. Blending the samples of four Ilayaraja classics and one Vidyasagar banger, Vyadhi created a masterpiece of an instrumental on which Street Academics performed various verses over years in live shows. After the release of "Loop", the group finalized the lyrics and settled for a final theme, which was named after Walayar - Kanjikode area in Palakkad, the hometown of Vyadhi. The track bears the soundscape and lyrical theme reminiscent of NY grunge/boombap era, re-imagined in a Malabar setting provided by the Tamil folk-hop instrumental of Vyadhi and the multilingual hardcore verses of Haris Saleem and Imbachi. Literally providing an answer to the question, "How many kilometres from South Bronx to Kanjikode West?"
